*  Mathematical creativity across cultures.

An open discussion with the audience will follow.

Call for contributions

We would like to invite mathematics educators from all around the world to submit a paper for this Symposium. Papers might address one or more of the following sub themes:
  • Definition, identification and characteristics of mathematical creativity.

  • Mathematical creativity and cognition.

  • Mathematical creativity and mathematical giftedness

  • Exemplary teaching practices to encourage creativity

  • Students practice mathematical creativity

  • Mathematics programs, curriculum and/or problems that encourage creativity

  • Mathematical assessment and its effects on creativity

  • Mathematical creativity across cultures.

Session I (2 hours)
In the first session we will have paper presentations. The chairs and their colleagues from East and West will review the papers submitted for which the authors have indicated how the paper is related to creativity. From these papers they will form a program. If there are too many applications for participation in the symposium, there may be strands on sub themes in different rooms (i.e. for elementary / secondary / tertiary education). Papers on mathematical creativity may also be submitted to Topic Study Groups on Curriculum, Teaching and Learning, Teacher Education or Assessment.
Session II (1.5 hours)
In this session there will be a roundtable to synthesize results from Session I followed by an open discussion focusing on "Students' Creative Abilities in Mathematics Teaching and Learning -- the Views from West and East".

How to submit a proposal

 There is a separate website to study all details for proposal submission (see call for paper)
All proposals will be reviewed. The accepted papers then will be published in the conference proceedings CD version. Papers must be submitted through email attachment directly to all the chairs of the Symposium:
