Call
for Contributions to ICMI-EARCOME 3
EARCOME 3 is
a forum to reflect on East Asian countries’ experience, issues
and insight into the theories and principles behind the facts and
phenomena. It is our belief that further international exchange on
such a meaningful theme will truly benefit both the East and the
West. This
is an invitation to researchers, mathematics educators, school
teachers and policy makers from East Asian countries and around
the globe who would wish to present their papers at the
conference.
General
Requirements for proposals
Generally
all contributions submitted are expected to relate to the
conference theme: Foundations
and Creativity: Strengths and Weaknesses of Mathematics Education
in East Asia.
All proposals will be reviewed. The accepted papers will then be
published in the conference proceedings CD version and abstract
which will be handed out to participants at the start of the
conference.
Proposals
are expected to meet the following guidelines:

All
submissions must be in English, the language of the conference.

Their
content must be well organized according to precise heading and
subheading.
-
Abstract,
key words and references should be included.
-
Papers
should be written to a length no more than seven A4 pages including
title, author’s information, abstract, text, references,
appendices, figures, etc.
-
They
should be submitted in Word
processor software.
-
Use
“Times New Roman” fonts, size
12 with single
space.
-
Suitable
for transcription to A4 size, with text dimensions being 16cm x
24.7 cm (i.e. a 2.5 cm margin on A4 paper).
- Graphs
and tables format should follow the APA style or the format used
in “International Statistical Review” (See Notes for
Authors at http://www.cbs.nl/isi/isr-authors.htm).
Submissions
The
individual participant may contribute to the following three main
components of the scientific programme: Topic
Study Groups,
Symposiums and Poster
Exhibition.
The
deadline of submission is
March
10, 2005
.
Papers
for Symposiums or Topic Study Groups should be submitted through
email attachment directly to the all chairs of the TSG
or the Symposium for review. An abstract
of
poster should be submitted through email attachment to Secretariat
<earcome3@math.ecnu.edu.cn>.
To
avoid confusion or loss of proposals, please label your electronic
attached files as: EARCOME3_<your
surname_your given name>_Sym<No>.doc
EARCOME3_<your
surname_your given name>_TSG<No>.doc
EARCOME3_<your
surname_your given name>_Poster.doc
For
example: EARCOME3_John_David_Sym2.doc

Topic
Study Groups & Symposium:
There
are six Topic Study Groups and four Symposiums
in the conference programme. Based on the conference theme,
each TSG and Symposium
may have its sub-themes with specific
purposes
for paper submission and exchange programs.
Limited
by time allotted to each session, it may be that only part of
papers will be for oral presentation. But all accepted papers will
be collected and published in the conference proceedings. Chairs
of TSG / Symposium will make final decisions for paper acceptance.
Poster:
Conference
participants are encouraged to display their mathematics education
initiatives concerning research or practice in the poster
exhibition area. Poster presenters should consider using both
textual and visual means of presentation in their posters. The
conference will provide poster supplies and
material on site such as space, pins, tape. Presenters
should use a font of larger than 24 points so as to make the
posters readable at a distance of 1.5 meters. Information about
the size and format of posters will be given when a poster has
been accepted.
Acknowledgement
of receipt
Acknowledgement
of receipt of proposals will be forwarded within
ten days of submission. Please contact the Chairs of TSG /
Symposium (for paper) or Secretariat (for poster) if
acknowledgement of receipt is not received.
